Continuing Professional Development Subsidy

Rural GPs can claim up to $1137 ($1610 for solo GPs) for registration fees, travel expenses (including private car) and accommodation for attending RACGP/ACRRM accredited CPD within Australia.  This subsidy can also be used to claim expenses associated with professional journals or online learning resources.

Rural Female GP Pre-School Childcare Grant

Female GPs and Registrars who are working and living in a rural area and have one or more pre-school aged children may be able to claim a childcare grant of $2 for every hour they work.  Male GPs may also be eligible for this grant if they are the ‘Primary Caregiver’ for the child.

Training Grant

These grants are to assist GPs to undertake up-grading in, and maintenance of skills relevant to the rural practice to which they are relocating or in which they already practise. They are intended to increase the skills of the GPs in order to provide services needed in the community.

The grant is payable for an attachment of 5 –10 consecutive days, up to $5,000 depending on the length of training. The purpose of the grant is to provide assistance with loss of salary, accommodation, travel costs and childcare costs. These grants are only payable where no other support (eg procedural grant) is available.
