What is GPcare?

 

GPcare - After Hours is an after-hours general practice providing continuity of care to the Hills community via additional support outside of your regular GP’s practising hours. By using Hills GPs on a roster basis we can spread the workload across a broader base of doctors - it's even possible that you might see your doctor on the night! GPcare - After Hours is not intended to replace the care you receive from your regular GP but to provide an effective option for those with a genuine health-care issue but who have been unable to get to see their normal GP.

It is important that you continue to use your regular doctor for ongoing healthcare eg health checks, immunisation, workcover claims etc. Unless you request otherwise, records from GPcare - After Hours consultations will be forwarded to your nominated GP so that they remain fully informed of your health status.

To reflect your needs, our operating hours will be subject to change over time, so for the most recent information, check this website or call us on 1300GPCARE.

Where, When and How Much?

WHERE:

We are located just off the reception at Mount Barker Hospital, 87 Wellington Rd, Mount Barker. We have illuminated external signage and good parking. Our contact number is 1300GPCARE (1300 472 273).

GPcare also operates a clinic from Stirling District Hospital on Sundays and Public Holidays from 10am to 2pm.  Appointments for Stirling can be made by phoning GPcare After Hours on 1300 472 273.

WHEN:

Monday - Friday: 6.30pm to 9.00pm

Saturday: 1.00pm to 6.00pm

Sunday & Public Holidays: 10.00am to 6.00pm (Mount Barker)

Sunday & Public Holidays:  10.00am to 2.00pm (Stirling)

HOW MUCH: Whilst GPcare - After Hours is based at the Mount Barker Hospital it is not a hospital service. It is wholly owned by the Adelaide Hills Division of General Practice Inc.- a charitable organisation that has been supporting Hills GPs for the past 10 years (www.ahdgp.org.au) and is funded by a combination of Commonwealth grants and the fees we charge.

We have established a maximum gap fee of $40 that you will be charged in addition to the Schedule Fee. We have EFTPOS. Please note that we prefer full payment at the time of consultation.

 PAYMENT OPTIONS:
 

  • Pay at the clinic during clinic hours; Mon-Fri 6:30-9:00pm, Sat 1:00-6:00pm & Sun 10:00am-6:00pm

  • Pay via EFTPOS by phoning GPcare 1300 472 273 during clinic hours or leave a message and we will return your call

  • Seal your payment in an envelope with your name on it and leave in brass letter box in door to GPcare reception office

  • Mail to GPcare Afterhours, PO Box 208, Nairne 5252

How To Make An Appointment

Either ring us on 1300 GPCARE and make an appointment (prior to our opening times you'll need to leave a message and we'll get back to you once clinic staff are on-site) or just turn up and we'll book you in at the earliest opportunity.

Please be aware that the doctor may be called to attend an emergency at any time. These circumstances are beyond our control and, whilst all efforts will be made to meet our appointment times, no guarantees can be given. We would appreciate your patience at such times.
